Pilates is a specific form of therapeutic exercise created in the early 20th century by Joseph Pilates. His method consists of various exercises in a specific order and on a variety of different apparatus, most of which use springs to create tension and resistance for you to push and pull against. Pilates was originally called Contrology, and it’s aim is to gain complete control over your body and all of its movements. Pilates enhances your strength, flexibility, balance and body awareness. Pilates can help you develop better posture, correct old injuries and avoid new injuries, improve your sport performance, tone your muscles and will make you feel energetic, youthful, toned and tall.
Classical Pilates, (as opposed to contemporary Pilates), adheres to the exercises and the method just as Joseph Pilates created it and taught it, (without making up new variations/adaptations/modifications just to entertain you). The method is rigorous, the equipment is traditional, and it works. Contrology in its truest form helps you achieve complete coordination of mind, body and spirit. In the words of Vintage Pilates, “We don’t change the work. The work changes us.”
Everybody can do Pilates. Pilates can meet you where you are at, whether you are younger or older, in shape or trying to get in shape, healthy or ill, an athlete, a sedentary office worker, injured, pregnant, postnatal etc. All of our teachers are trained to create a pilates program specifically designed for your needs and goals.
You have multiple options if you are new to Pilates or new to our studio. We offer intro packages for new students which includes either 4 private sessions or 4 group classes. We strongly suggest that your first group class be one of the ‘foundations’ classes, even if you have previous pilates experience. We would like to carefully and safely introduce you to our studio, our unique equipment, and our style of teaching Pilates. After your first visit or when you have completed your intro package, you can ask your teacher where the best place for you to continue is.
We strongly suggest a minimum of twice per week. Many students prefer to visit the studio 3-4 times a week to see faster results, longer lasting effects and more obvious benefits.
Please visit the Rates & Classes page on our website, that includes descriptions of all of our different Pilates and Yoga classes in detail.
Yes of course. We believe Pilates and Yoga are very different but also extremely complementary to each other.

Joe style Pilates is a group class that resembles the way Joseph Pilates taught students in his New York studio. In this class, students are expected to know their personal Pilates routines and work out independently. You can choose which piece of equipment you work out on each day and move at your own pace. At our studio we make sure that you only start attending these classes when you have had enough experience to be ready for this type of training session. The teacher is present for help, encouragement, hands on assists, and suggestions but will not be guiding you through the workout. Please contact us to receive permission to attend these classes. Minimum requirement is at least 5 private sessions or 10 group classes or completing the New Student intro package PLUS your teacher must deem that you are ready. If you have previous CLASSICAL Pilates experience and believe that this style of class is appropriate for you please contact us for approval to join.

We believe that weight loss and weight maintenance is achieved mainly via your diet. Eating healthy foods in the appropriate amount is going to help you achieve your weight goals more directly than working out. Regularly practicing Pilates and yoga will help your muscles be more strong and toned (which therefore burns more calories) and is certainly part of a healthy weight loss plan. Pilates and Yoga can also lower your stress levels and promote better sleep, better mood and a calmer nervous system, which are all also a part of achieving and maintaining a healthy weight.
